Project supported by Alabama Power and Innovate Alabama
The City of Eufaula Parks and Recreation Department will launch “Kayak Eufaula,” an exciting new outdoor adventure program this summer, thanks to a unique partnership involving Lakepoint State Park, Alabama Power and Innovate Alabama.
"Kayak Eufaula" aims to provide residents and visitors with an unparalleled opportunity to explore the natural beauty of Lake Eufaula through guided kayak tours, rentals and educational programs. The program will offer a range of activities suitable for all skill levels, from beginners to experienced paddlers.
Lakepoint State Park, known for its stunning landscapes and recreational opportunities on the banks of Lake Eufaula, will serve as the primary location for "Kayak Eufaula." The park's pristine waters and diverse wildlife make it the perfect setting for this new adventure program. Visitors can look forward to exploring scenic routes, spotting local wildlife and learning about the area's rich ecological history.
“We’re excited to welcome ‘Kayak Eufaula’ to Lakepoint State Park,” said Alabama State Parks Director Matthew Capps. “The park is the perfect home for this kind of adventure. Guests can come for the kayaking and stay for our newly renovated lodge rooms and so much more. The Kayak Eufaula experience at Lakepoint State Park opens up an exciting new way for people to enjoy Eufaula and the great outdoors.”
The “Kayak Eufaula” initiative has been made possible through a generous grant from Innovate Alabama, a statewide public-private partnership focused on entrepreneurship, technology and innovation. This funding will be instrumental in acquiring high-quality kayaks, safety equipment, and training for guides, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for all participants.
Alabama Power is also collaborating with the City of Eufaula Parks and Recreation as a strategic partner for this initiative, with a focus on environmental stewardship and community engagement. These efforts align with the company's key commitments of protecting the natural resources of the state and helping develop community spaces for Alabamians to enjoy.
Rick Thorne, Programs Coordinator, from the City of Eufaula Parks and Recreation Department expressed enthusiasm for the upcoming launch of Kayak Eufaula this summer. “We’re thrilled to introduce this program, which provides a wonderful opportunity for our community to engage with nature, encourage outdoor recreation, and stimulate local tourism,” he said. “We truly appreciate the support and collaboration of Innovate Alabama, Lakepoint State Park, and Alabama Power in making this initiative possible.”
The official launch of "Kayak Eufaula" is scheduled for June 2, 2025. A special ribbon-cutting ceremony and community event will mark the occasion, with activities and demonstrations for all ages. More details will be announced in the coming weeks.
