Whitetails Unlimited Grants $10,000 to Minnesota State High School Clay Target League

The Minnesota State High School Clay Target League has wrapped up another monumental year. Whitetails Unlimited awarded another $5,000 grant for the 2019 Trap Shooting Championship held in Alexandria, Minnesota this past summer. This brings the two-year total WTU has contributed to $10,000. There were 303 teams and 8,320 student athletes participating in the three day event. The primary discipline is 5-Stand trap. This is hailed as the world’s largest shooting sport event with a total attendance of 25,000 including spectators.

Student athletes compete in both individual and team events. There are three classifications of competition: Novice, Junior Varsity, and Varsity. Classifications are determined by the athlete’s year-end average weekly score, which ensures that athletes are competing against athletes with similar skill level.

“Every year this event continues to grow,“ says Whitetails Unlimited Program Services Director Russ Austad. “Not only does an event like this play perfectly into WTU’s Staying on Target initiative, but it also supports the National R3 initiative of Recruitment, Retention, and Reactivation of hunters and recreational shooters”
