Six ODNR Wildlife Publications Win National ACI Awards

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife earned six national awards from the Association for Conservation Information’s (ACI) 2025 awards competition.

The Association for Conservation Information is a national, nonprofit organization of natural resources communicators. Through ACI, state, federal, and Canadian wildlife resource agencies share best practices and ideas. The annual ACI competition honors the best in information, social media, print publications, videos, graphics, and marketing.

The Division of Wildlife’s 2025 awards included:

  • Wild Ohio magazine: First place, magazine category.
  • Ohio Wildlife Legacy Stamp: First place, one-time publication category.
  • Form and Function, Ohio’s Various Bird Nests: First place, magazine wildlife article category.
  • Ohio’s World of Wildlife K-2 Identification Guide: Second place, education category.
  • Wild Ohio Calendar: Third place, calendar category.
  • Warblers of Ohio Field Guide: Third place, book/report publication category.

Wild Ohio was named the nation’s top magazine produced by a fish and wildlife agency. Wild Ohio editions from 2024 were recognized for their excellent photography, design, writing, and information. An article in Issue 2 of the 2024 magazine, “Form and Function, Ohio’s Various Bird Nests,” also won a top honor in the wildlife article category.

The 2024 Ohio Wildlife Legacy Stamp, featuring a cedar waxwing, won first place in the one-time publication category. Each year, outdoor enthusiasts voluntarily purchase the $15 collectible stamp to directly impact the future of Ohio conservation. Stamp proceeds go into the Wildlife Diversity Fund, with the goal of improving habitat restoration, land purchases, conservation easements, and wildlife education. You can purchase this year’s stamp, which features a hummingbird clearwing moth, and the nationally acclaimed 2024 stamp online.

A new resource for educators, the Ohio’s World of Wildlife K-2 Identification Guide, earned a second place honor in the education category. The guide is filled with wildlife information and interactive activities for students in kindergarten to second grade.

The Division of Wildlife’s updated Warblers of Ohio field guide took home third place as a one-time book/report in the national competition. Part of the agency’s series of free field guides, the warblers booklet highlights one of the most popular groups of songbirds. Find the full collection of field guides at wildohio.gov.
