Nebraska: G&P Encourages Anglers to "Take 'Em Fishing"--and Win Prizes

You love to fish. It’s how you enjoy a beautiful day, and how you relax after a stressful week. It’s an excuse to spend time outdoors, away from screens and obligations. And it’s the very best way you know to spend quality time with your favorite people. Whether it’s an afternoon bank fishing with a neighbor or an annual trip with family, fishing is where you share old memories and create new ones.

This year, the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission challenges you to take someone new fishing. Whether it’s a grandchild, a child, a spouse, a neighbor, a colleague or a friend, we challenge you to share your passion with someone you care about. It doesn’t matter if they’ve never fished before, or if they’ve just fallen out of the habit. Take ’em fishing. You’ll be glad you did.

First, take our pledge to show your commitment to taking someone fishing this year and helping keep the sport of fishing alive and well in Nebraska. Those who take the pledge can receive a pin or sticker.

How it works

Submit a photo of yourself fishing with someone who has never fished before or who has let fishing fall by the wayside, and you’ll be automatically registered into our Take ’em Fishing drawing. We’ll give away prizes all summer long, including fishing rods and reels, fish finders, coolers, camping equipment, a stay at the Nebraska state park of your choice and much more. Why fishing?

Avid anglers like you maintain the health of Nebraska’s lakes, streams and rivers. Money generated through the sale of fishing permits and aquatic habitat stamps is used to maintain healthy fisheries in Nebraska water bodies, and to improve access for anglers. But our anglers are getting older, and we need a new generation of anglers to take their place to ensure the health and vitality of Nebraska’s aquatic resources for generations to come.

Community Fishing Nights

Enjoy an evening of fishing with Nebraska Game and Parks staff and volunteers this spring and summer at a Community Fishing Night. These free events are held across the state to introduce or reintroduce people to the sport of fishing. Bring your family, some friends or just yourself. Rods, reels, bait and instruction are provided. All you need is a valid fishing permit.

Where to fish

Family Friendly Lakes are great for new anglers. These locations have a combination of barrier-free fishing access, fishing piers, fishing trails, groomed park areas, concessions, playgrounds, picnic shelters and highly maintained fish populations. If you are planning a family fishing adventure, use the interactive map below to locate family friendly lakes. You can also check the latest Fishing Guide for lakes with a Family-Friendly Lake designation.
