Indiana: grants will help replace overlook at Tippecanoe River SP

The Friends of Tippecanoe River State Park group recently received a $5,215 grant from the Community Grants Fund through the Community Foundation of Pulaski County and a $3,000 grant from the Carol White REMC Operation Round Up program to support the replacement of an overlook at the waterfowl area at Tippecanoe River State Park.

“We’ve been waiting to see the overlook replacement take shape for quite some time,” said Mike Schultz, vice president of the Friends group. “The overlook replacement will improve the way visitors of Tippecanoe River State Park can enjoy nature.”

The awards come after the Friends group’s replacement of windows at the river shelter and lights and electrical wiring at Tepicon Recreation Hall in the park. The mission of Friends of Tippecanoe River State Park is to support the park with conservation activities, education, recreation and historic preservation as well as promote the park, and the overlook replacement will effectively support this mission, group president Jack Burger said.

“We are always humbled by the commitment to projects, fundraising and volunteering that our Friends groups make,” said Ginger Murphy, deputy director for stewardship for Indiana State Parks. “We also appreciate the support we receive from local and regional organizations like the REMC and the Community Foundation of Pulaski County.”
