Halibut & Dogfish This Week on Dead Meat

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (November 23, 2021) – On this week’s Dead Meat with host Scott Leysath on Sportsman Channel, Leysath hooks up with the crew from Reel Salty Charters in search of halibut – and maybe a few other fish species that people don’t eat all that much. Tune in for the all-new episode of Dead Meat on Sportsman Channel Saturday at 12:30 p.m. ET.

“I’ve been visiting Alaska for many years, but this is my first opportunity to visit Ninilchik for halibut fishing, which can get up to 500 pounds and grow up to 8 feet long,” explained Leysath. “But before long, we hook a dogfish, which has a bad rap for taste. But that doesn’t stop the Dead Meat crew, even if dogfish have venom in their dorsal spine.”

Even sea sickness can’t stop Leysath and the camera crew from reeling in halibut, dogfish and more. This is good as deck hand/chef Dillan is ready to get the grill going. Dogfish are usually considered are considered a ‘trash fish,’ but Dillan stuffed it full of potato, apple, lemon, garlic, chive, and parsley. For the halibut, he made a halibut sausage/brat.

This season, the series visits Florida for a swamp buggy snipe hunt, and then learns a new twist on cooking snipe, plus they land in Puerto Rico to see if Iguanas do really taste like chicken. And what one may consider a delicacy in other cultures (enter: Hagfish) are downright slimy and shall we say, gross, stateside. But Leysath is on a mission to find those people who make eating the less-desirable parts of animals, something they do daily.
