New Agenda Item Added to Thursday’s Fish and Wildlife Commission Meeting

A new agenda item has been added to the Oct. 9 Fish and Wildlife Commission meeting agenda: Epizootic Hemorrhagic Disease-Bluetongue Virus and Potential Adjustments to the 2025 Deer Hunting Regulations. The commission will meet via Zoom starting at 8:30 a.m.

Due to widespread detections of hemorrhagic disease virus (EHD) and bluetongue virus in northeast Montana, FWP wildlife managers are recommending a season amendment for fall 2025, where the regulation currently allows hunters to purchase up to three 006-00 antlerless whitetail B-licenses.

The change would eliminate additional sales of more than one 006-00 white-tailed deer B license per hunter to reduce the likelihood of local overharvests and provide hunters with a reasonable expectation of harvest.

Public comment on the new commission item is open through 4 p.m. on Oct. 8. This will allow time for the commission to evaluate all submissions prior to the Oct. 9 meeting. The commission will take public comment on all agenda items from registered commenters on Zoom. Registration for public comment ends at noon on Oct. 8. To register, go to FWP’s website by noon on Oct. 8.

Other agenda items include the following: ?

  • Senate Bill 83 - Proposed Final Adoption?(MAPA Process, Final Step)
  • Habitat Conservation Leases
  • Chronic Wasting Disease ARM 12.6.1015 Rule Amendment - Rulemaking (MAPA Process, Step 1)
