Two-part series discusses firsthand student safety procedures in the event of a school shooting
DENVER – A school shooting is a nightmare scenario for anyone involved. In today’s world, the question is not “if” it will happen again…sadly, it is “when”…as we’ve just witnessed. Outdoor Channel host Michael Bane and his team producing The Best Defense (Wednesdays at 8 p.m. ET) recreate this nightmare scenario for their March 20 and 27 episodes.
Bane and The Best Defense team stage an active shooter scenario in a school with students, teachers and faculty to try and demonstrate tactics that can help save lives in the event of an actual emergency. The episodes include chilling depictions of what could – and does – happen when a shooter decides to go on a rampage. Firsthand commentary from a school shooting survivor also offers a startling reminder that these events are too real and affect many people’s lives.
“These episodes were difficult to make but very important,” Bane said. “We understand this is an uncomfortable topic to discuss and depict as a ‘staged event,’ but addressing the possibility and preparing our sons, daughters, nieces, nephews, grandchildren and friends to respond is why we tackled this subject in such a graphic way.”
