As springtime melodies fill the air, the 2025 Songbird Art Contest invites young artists across the country to celebrate the beauty and wonder of North America's songbirds. Open to all K–12 students, this annual competition encourages creativity and conservation by spotlighting some of the continent’s most captivating — and threatened — bird species.
This year’s featured species include:
Since 1970, North America has lost nearly 3 billion birds. The Songbird Art Contest was created not only to inspire artistic expression but also to raise awareness about the urgent need to protect these species. Through research and creative work, students discover how they can take action to support bird conservation.
"This contest gives students the chance to connect art, science, and stewardship in a meaningful way. It’s about celebrating nature’s beauty while understanding our role in preserving it," says Veronica Mangio, Marketing & Communications Manager at Wildlife Forever.
To participate, students must select one bird from the featured list, research its habitat and conservation needs, and create an original, hand-drawn artwork. Students in grades 4 and up are also required to submit a short creative writing piece to accompany their art. Deadline for entries is November 30, 2024.
