Presbyterian College Hosts South Carolina Indoor State Championship

Williamsburg, KY – When Sheila Tadlock was hired as the State Coordinator for the S3DA program, she made it her personal goal to see the South Carolina S3DA program grow and flourish across the state. Two years ago, the first SC S3DA Indoor State Championship was held with under fifty participants. South Carolina S3DA recently held its 2023 Indoor State Championship on the campus of Presbyterian College at the Springs Student Center in Clinton, South Carolina. Nearly 150 youth archers from thirteen teams competed in the event with a jam-packed gymnasium of 300+ spectators and standing room only. The Presbyterian College Head Archery Coach, Jerry Slice, attended the event and spoke with archers about the school and the archery program.

Parent Angie Martin said, “We enjoyed attending this championship at Presbyterian College. The drive to the campus was beautiful. The facility was inviting and included a food court complete with fun activities for everyone. Some of the archers played a round of ping pong after their round of shooting. It was great for the kids to meet the collegiate archery coaches and current team members. We appreciate the opportunities that this program has brought to these kids and the doors it has opened that we never knew were there.”

South Carolina State Coordinator, Sheila Tadlock said, “This State Indoor Championship will be one of the most memorable moments in the history of the South Carolina S3DA program. The archers from the Jr. Eagle class to the Young Adult class got a glimpse of what the future holds with S3DA. Every archer had the opportunity to surpass their personal best with the added support of community leaders, parents, and coaches. The biggest thing I wanted the youth and their families to take away from this event was their love for the sport of archery and how it can be continued past this program to the collegiate level and beyond. S3DA youth can obtain a college education on an archery scholarship that they earned.”

“Presbyterian College was honored to host the 2023 South Carolina S3DA Indoor State Championship. South Carolina State Coordinator, Sheila Tadlock, along with a host of volunteers, has put in a lot of work to make this event possible and we know the SC S3DA staff reaped the rewards by seeing the mass number of archers and their families that attended this event. We look forward to building our relationship with South Carolina S3DA to host future indoor and outdoor tournaments on our campus. This event was exactly what we needed to introduce the new Presbyterian College Archery Program in South Carolina. The sport of archery provides many opportunities for personal growth and a lifetime of meaningful fellowship,” said Jerry Slice, Presbyterian Archery Club Advisor, and Coach.
