The Alabama State Parks and Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries divisions have teamed up to host two weekend workshops in 2019. The first Outdoor Alabama Experience weekend workshop will take place at Oak Mountain State Park in Pelham, Ala., on April 12-14. Registration is currently open for the event. The Outdoor Alabama Experience program is designed for families with any level of outdoors skills or experience. The workshops feature hands-on learning in a variety of outdoor activities such as camping, hiking, biking, wildlife watching, shooting sports, fishing, hunting, kayaking and more. Courses taught may vary based on location.

“The Outdoor Alabama Experience is a weekend full of opportunities for families to learn about many of the great ways they can enjoy Alabama's beautiful outdoors together,” said Emily Vanderford, State Parks Natural Resources Planner. “Families can choose the classes they are most interested in and will hopefully leave with the confidence and information needed to continue enjoying those outdoor activities in the future.”

The registration fee is $100 for two people and $25 for each additional participant. The registration fee includes all meals, participant t-shirts and weekend instruction. Overnight accommodations are not included in the registration cost.

Workshop participants will receive a camping discount in the park hosting the event. Whether your family members are experienced campers or have never camped before, knowledgeable staff will be available to help with campsite setup or any other questions you may have. You may also choose to stay in other park accommodations (based on availability) or at accommodations outside the host park.
