Savage Arms Announces New Savage Journeys Episode

WESTFIELD, Massachusetts –Savage Arms® releases the latest episode of Savage Journeys — “HUNTING THE VINES | Steinbeck Winery” — tonight at 6 p.m. CDT on YouTube. The episode will also be featured on the Savage Blog starting tomorrow. The latest episode delves into the deep impact that hunting, conservation and wildlife management have had on Steinbeck Vineyards in Paso Robles, California.

The story begins in 1960 with a Savage Model 110 L in .243 Winchester. For Howie Steinbeck, this rifle was more than just a piece of equipment; it was a hunting buddy, a trusted sidekick and a vessel for a lifetime of memories. This rifle served as the catalyst for a family tradition of hunting, which evolved into a passion for wildlife management at Steinbeck Vineyards & Winery.

Today, Howie's grandson, Ryan Newkirk, has successfully connected wildlife management, the vineyard and hunting in a way that fosters meaningful conversations and engages visitors in discussions about hunting, conservation and sustainable practices.

“The rifle is an uncanny likeness of the man. Its 65 years show. Maintenance over the years was entirely focused on functionality, not cosmetics,” said Newkirk. “The unfathomable number of hours spent with it in hand are reflected in the wear, but also in the glass-smooth bolt and the ease with which it shoulders and points. Like a perfectly broken-in pair of boots, resulting not from neglect, but from love.”

“HUNTING THE VINES” illustrates how deeply the roots of hunting and conservation run across generations. This episode not only highlights the importance of these practices, but also showcases the unique relationship between the Steinbeck family and their land, emphasizing the role of responsible hunting in promoting ecological balance and sustainability.

The full story of Steinbeck and his trusted Savage 110 can be watched, read and experienced on Savage’s YouTube and the Savage Website.
