Michigan: Outdoor Adventure Center Michigan Fisheries Education Initiative

Metro Detroit students have an opportunity to experience hands-on learning through a new initiative that connects the importance of thriving Great Lakes ecosystems to our health, economy and wildlife. Educators teaching grades 6-12 may apply to join the program, funded by the Great Lakes Fishery Trust, through Nov. 20.

Problem-solving, hands-on learning and place-based education will be emphasized through lessons focusing on either invasive species and sea lamprey control or lake sturgeon restoration efforts in the Great Lakes.

This program includes a school visit by an Outdoor Adventure Center educator, a field trip to the Outdoor Adventure Center in Detroit, and a fishing experience and opportunity to meet with biologists/fisheries specialists at a local state park.

Elementary teachers, please share with colleagues that teach grades 6-12.
