Ranger Boats Pro Sprengel Wins NWT Angler of the Year

Ranger pro upgrades prize boat to Ranger 620FS PRO

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Ranger Boats pro angler Korey Sprengel won

the National Walleye Tour presented by Bass Pro Shops & Cabela’s (NWT) Lucas Oil Angler

of the Year title on Lake Erie, October 16. The title is a testament to the angler consistently

placing high at NWT events throughout the season. The title awards the angler a custom

Lucas Oil Angler of the Year ring and paid entry fees for the 2021 NWT season.

Sprengel tied for the inaugural NWT season with Robert Blosser in the Angler of the Year

race, but eventually lost out due to the tie breaker. Ever since then, the angler has

consistently placed in the top-10 final rankings for Angler of the Year each year, making

him one of the most steady sticks on tour.

“It feels good to finally get it after tying for it and losing on a tie breaker,” said Sprengel.

“I’ve been in the top-10 every year and had multiple shots at it for the last eight years and

now I finally get it done. It’s pretty relieving to put it behind me.”

Chasing the Angler of the Year title has helped Sprengel grow and mature as an angler.

Although he has had success throughout his competitive career, he cites the process has

helped him refine his processes and tactics.

“Angler of the Year is not something you luck into,” said Sprengel. “Every decision you

make regarding weather and all the conditions you have throughout the year. You can’t

have any mistakes basically. It constantly pushes you to capitalize on being the most

efficient angler during all portions of practice and during the tournament. To win the title,

you have to very precise and efficient when it comes to the decision making.“

Sprengel started hot this season by winning the opening NWT event on Green Bay. The

angler followed up with a 39 th -place finish at Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, before placing 11 th

on Lake Sakakawea in North Dakota. Coming into the championship event, he was trailed

by David Kolb and John Hoyer by just a few points. Sprengel slammed the door shut with an

emphatic second-place finish at the NWT Championship on Lake Erie.

Consistency is key to winning any Angler of the Year and no angler can place high regularly

without relying on dependable gear, such as Sprengel’s Ranger boat.

“The fishability of it and how easy it is to maneuver and control is key,” said Sprengel. “My

Ranger tracks so well, especially when it comes to trolling. The Zip Wake Trim Tab system

is great too. You can do so much with that hull. It doesn’t matter if you three or four guys in

the boat, you can quarter waves by rolling the hull no problem.”
