Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks will offer two Hunter Education classroom courses and three Hunter Ed online field days this spring.
Students under 12 must take the classroom course and certify as apprentice hunters. Youths ages 12-17 can either take the classroom course or the Hunter Education online course, but if they do online they must also take an in-person field day for online students before becoming certified. There is no cost for classroom courses or field days.
People are strongly encouraged to register for a class or field day as soon as possible, as offerings are limited by volunteer instructor capacity, and most classes across the region are complete by July 31.
Hunter Ed Classroom Courses (two options)
Class #1 March 14-16 (Friday-Sunday)
Class #2 April 4-6 (Friday-Sunday)
Registration is now open for the March 14-16 course at https://www.register-ed.com/events/view/224419.
Registration for the April 4-6 course opens March 10 at https://www.register-ed.com/events/view/224420.
Students must be 10 or older by the first day of class. Once registered, students must pick up manuals at the FWP office no later than Friday, March 7 for the first class or Friday, March 28 for the second class, or they will be dropped from the class. Allow time to read the manual and complete chapter quizzes by the first day of class. Print required documents online, sign and bring them to class.
Parents or guardians must attend a short orientation on the first night of class, which will run from 6-8 p.m. at the FWP office.
Saturday’s class is from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. at the FWP office. Students should bring a lunch and drink with a lid. Sunday’s class is from 8 a.m.-noon at FWP, followed by a lunch break.
Students will need a lunch and transportation to the field day at Spotted Eagle Recreation Area from 1-4 p.m. Participants should dress for the weather and for hunting conditions; no open-toed shoes are allowed. Students must attend all sessions to become certified.
