Morgan-Monroe SF/Fire Headquarters open house, May 10

The public is invited to the DNR Division of Forestry’s open house event on May 10 to dedicate its newly constructed office building at Morgan-Monroe State Forest, located just south of Martinsville.

The event will run from 1:45 to 7 p.m. At 4:30 p.m., Morgan-Monroe staff will lead participants on a short forest management tour.

The event will also highlight the collective effort of the DNR Division of Forestry and the Indiana Department of Correction to construct a unique all-wood post and beam office. Much of the materials in the new office came from trees harvested from Indiana state forests. Some of the other material used includes reclaimed wood products from old munitions buildings from the previous military operation that is now Charlestown State Park.

The open house will also feature 17 different hardwood species and how they are used as well as education exhibits about state forest management.

The new facility will house the staff that manages Morgan-Monroe State Forest and the fire program for the DNR Division of Forestry.

Refreshments will be served during the event. For further information contact Darren Bridges at dbridges@dnr.IN.gov or by phone 765-342-4026.
