Phillips 66 supports wetland enhancement in northeastern Colorado

WELDONA, Colo. – Ducks Unlimited (DU) and Phillips 66 are proud to announce the completion of the Jackson State Wildlife Area Wetland Enhancement project. The Jackson State Wildlife Area is owned and managed by Colorado Parks and Wildlife and is one of the most frequented public areas in northeastern Colorado.

“Phillips 66 continues to be a strong partner in conservation, and they have recently elevated their contributions to help us do even more for wetlands, waterfowl, and people,” said Matt Bunn, DU director of development. “This project provides a wonderful opportunity to improve wetlands and on-the-ground conservation delivery in northeast Colorado. Thanks to great partners like Phillips 66, the benefits of projects like these will carry on for generations to come.”

The Jackson State Wildlife Area Wetland Enhancement project improved migratory bird habitat and recreational opportunities in both quality and quantity by changing the terrain of wetlands in the area. Located along the South Platte River, this wildlife area is a vitally important waterfowl habitat. Approximately 11,000 cubic yards of dirt was moved to fill in deep holes and nearly doubled the size of the wetlands.

“Investing in the communities we live and work in, Phillips 66 is committed to restoring and protecting wetlands,” said Todd Denton, president of Phillips 66 Pipeline LLC. “Since our inception in 2012, we have lived up to that commitment by partnering with groups like DU on projects that keep the environment stable.”

In addition to Phillips 66, this project is supported by Colorado Parks and Wildlife and Morning Star Custom Builders, Inc.
