Kamuran Aker passed away peacefully at home on 01/15/20 after battling cancer for the past few years. Kamuran moved to the United States from Turkey in 1978 and founded Aker International, Inc. dba Aker Leather in 1981. Starting as a one-man operation, he grew his business to become one of the leading leather duty gear manufacturers in the world. His strict attention to detail and product quality is shown in every product used by countless law enforcement agencies, from the Los Angeles Sheriff Department to Customs & Border Protection, as well as by many other departments and individuals, both nationally and internationally.
The legacy and direction of Aker Leather is being continued by his son and grandson. Kamuran’s contagious joviality, business acumen, integrity and profound respect for his employees, customers, and suppliers were well known throughout the industry. As our business progresses into the 2nd and 3rd generation, we look forward to continuing these relationships for decades to come.
