Land Trust Alliance Statement on John D. Dingell Jr. Conservation, Management and Recreation Act Signing

‘This Is a Historic Victory for Conservation’

WASHINGTON – The Land Trust Alliance, a national land conservation organization working to save the places people need and love by strengthening land conservation across America, today celebrated the John D. Dingell Jr. Conservation, Management and Recreation Act being signed into law. This law makes permanent the Land and Water Conservation Fund. The following statement can be attributed to Andrew Bowman, president of the Land Trust Alliance:

"The Land Trust Alliance applauds today’s signing of the John D. Dingell Jr. Conservation, Management and Recreation Act. This legislation, which honors by name the recently passed champion of land conservation, notably makes permanent the important Land and Water Conservation Fund.

"For more than 50 years, the Land and Water Conservation Fund has helped conserve important land, water and recreation areas for all Americans. By investing a portion of offshore energy revenues, LWCF pays for local, state and national parks, as well as other public lands, such as forests, shorelines, historic sites and wildlife refuges. LWCF supports 41,000 state and local park projects, provides 9.4 million sustainable domestic jobs, protects millions of acres of land and contributes $1.06 trillion annually to the national economy. All at zero cost to taxpayers.

"That’s why the Land Trust Alliance worked as part of a coalition to permanently reauthorize LWCF. And now, thanks to overwhelming bipartisan support, LWCF is permanent. This is a historic victory for conservation. Thank you to everyone who acted in support of this landmark legislation to forever improve our nation."
