Whitetails Unlimited Awards $1,000 Grant To Feeding Texas
Whitetails Unlimited recently awarded a $1,000 grant to the Feeding Texas Hunters for the Hungry program. The program encourages Texas hunters to donate legally harvested deer to their local food pantries to help those in need. Donated funds offset the costs associated with processing donated game. This past fiscal year, WTU has donated more than $11,000 to organizations similar to Feeding Texas such as Hoosier Feeding the Hungry, Farmers and Hunters Feeding the Hungry, and Hunt for the Hungry.
During these trying times, families with needs for assistance is as great as ever. Food pantries across the nation are running desperately low on sustenance to aid those less fortunate. Whitetails Unlimited is a strong supporter of hunter donations to food pantries, and has been instrumental in both financing and expanding programs in many states.
The National Rifle Association’s website has a way to find local food pantries across the country at https://hfth.nra.org/get-involved. From this page you can find programs in your state, determine drop off locations and times, and find out how to handle the deer in a manner that makes it easy for the program to process. In most cases, there is no cost to the hunter to participate.
“The pandemic has been a tough obstacle for a lot people nationally and globally,” says Whitetails Unlimited Program Services Director Russ Austad. “Organizations like Feeding Texas help lessen the burden for those struggling.”
