Whitetails Unlimited recently awarded more than $12,000 to Farmers and Hunters Feeding the Hungry on behalf of the Miami Valley and Maumee Valley Ohio Chapters. Over the past four years WTU has contributed more than $60,000 to FHFH. The group focuses on partnering with butchers to cover the costs of processing meat from deer, livestock, and other big game. The meat is then distributed to area food banks for those in need. This is made possible because hunters in some parts of the country are able to harvest more deer than they can eat or share with their friends and family. Farmers are issued management permits to reduce deer numbers that are damaging their crop yields. Some also have livestock they are willing to donate.

“There are areas of the country where whitetail herd populations need to be reduced,” says Whitetails Unlimited Program Services Director Russ Austad. “Unfortunately, there are also areas of the country where families are in need. FHFH helps combat both of those problems.”
