September Is Public Lands Month; BHA Members Unite to Clean up Our Lands and Waters

Public Land Pack Out challenges BHA members and supporters
to clean up our public lands during their days afield

MISSOULA, Mont. – Backcountry Hunters & Anglers members are coming together in force during Public Lands Month, working, activating and celebrating in support of our North American lands and waters – and, via BHA’s Public Land Pack Out, leaving them a little better than they were before.

“September is when the days get shorter, the heart quickens and anticipation grows,” said BHA President and CEO Land Tawney. “What better time exists than September to celebrate the places that make our outdoor adventures possible – and to come together in defending our North American public lands legacy?

“This year during Public Lands Month, join BHA members in taking at least one new hunter or angler afield,” said Tawney. “Join us in the Public Land Pack Out and clean up our public lands and waters. Join us in continuing to speak for those animals and wild places that cannot. If not now, when? If not us, who?”

All September during BHA’s Public Land Pack Out, BHA members across North America will be participating in chapter-organized clean-up events and grabbing garbage bags when they head afield – with the goal of packing out 1,000 bags of trash. The Public Land Pack Out is a chapter-to-chapter competition, and the BHA chapter that packs out the most public land trash will win $1,000 from BHA corporate partner GoHunt.

BHA chapters are holding dozens of local events in September, including showings of BHA’s 2019 Public Land Owner Film Fest. Special releases of BHA’s Podcast & Blast, hosted by Hal Herring and sponsored by Sitka, will be rolled out weekly throughout the month as well.

BHA members and supporters will be documenting their Public Lands Month experiences on social media using the hashtags #PublicLandsMonth, #PublicLandOwner and #PublicLandPackOut.

BHA launched Public Lands Month in 2017 to focus attention and drive action in support of North America’s public lands and waters. National Public Lands Day in 2019 is Saturday, Sept. 28.

Backcountry Hunters & Anglers is the voice
