Kentucky: Fish & Wildlife Committees Meet May 10

Agenda includes discussions about elk permits, possible regulation changes

FRANKFORT, KY - Members of the Kentucky Fish and Wildlife Commission will conduct committee meetings starting at 8:30 a.m. (Eastern) Friday, May 10 on the campus of the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources in Frankfort. Meetings are open for the public.

The agenda for the Administration, Education and Policy Committee includes planned discussions about special commission permits, a possible free registration requirement for cervid meat processors and proposed changes to hunter education.

The Fisheries Committee meeting will include discussion about adding Lake Beshear to the administrative regulation relating to the use of lands and waters on lakes owned or controlled by the department.

The Wildlife Committee’s agenda includes planned discussions about the elk permit allotment and units for the 2020-2021 season, adjusting the length of frog season, removing the three-shell limit on shotguns for snow goose conservation order season following a recent statutory change, possible expansion of nighttime coyote hunting, extending the trapping season on water sets and adjusting the length of the grouse hunting season on public and private lands.

The Public Relations Committee’s agenda includes a planned discussion about the application process for elk quota hunts and a new fishing access app.

Items that pass out of committee meetings will be heard by the full Commission at its next quarterly meeting on June 7 in Frankfort.

The meetings will be held in the Arnold Mitchell Building on Kentucky Fish and Wildlife’s campus at 1 Sportsman’s Lane in Frankfort. The entrance is off U.S. 60, approximately 1½ miles west of U.S. 127.
