South Dakota: Lewis and Clark Becoming An Outdoors Family Event June 11-13

YANKTON, S.D. – Registration is now open for Lewis and Clark Recreation Area’s Becoming an Outdoor Family event.

Held June 11-13, the event is designed for beginner camping families, families who want to try new outdoor activities, and those who enjoy the company of like-minded families.

Workshop fees are $75 per family for a campsite, $130 per family for a camping cabin. The fee includes instruction in four skills sessions, program materials, and equipment use during the workshop. The full schedule can be viewed online atgfp.sd.gov/outdoors-family.

The program includes instruction in your choice of four hands-on classes, participation in six general sessions, and two nights of camping. Families arrive Tuesday, June 11, and depart Thursday, June 13. Options are available for a campsite or a camping cabin. For an additional fee, registrants can stay through the weekend, departing Sunday, June 16.

A park entrance license is required to enter the park and is not included in the registration fee. Participants are responsible for personal items such as bedding, towels, food, clothing, and a tent/camper if staying on a campsite.

Session choices include archery, birdwatching, fishing, kayaking, photography, nature crafts, dam tour, fish hatchery tour, and more. General sessions include yard games, shooting, scavenger hunt, and yoga.
