Florida: Miami-Dade Parks announces the start of construction improvements at Pelican Harbor Marina

Miami-Dade Parks announces the start of construction improvements at Pelican Harbor Marina

MIAMI —

The Miami-Dade Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces Department is implementing the “Pelican Harbor Marina Boat Ramp Parking Lot Beautification Project,” to renovate, upgrade and improve public access to the marina facility. Construction is expected to start in September 2018 and will be completed in Fall2019. (Note: Schedule may change due to weather or unforeseen circumstances.)

Every effort will be made to minimize noise, dust and traffic disruptions that may result from construction activities. The boat ramp will remain open at all times with about 40 parking spaces available throughout the construction.
The work will entail:

•Reconfiguring directional traffic flow through the lot to reduce conflicts and congestion.

•Creating an eastbound right turn lane that will reduce the backing up of vehicles onto the busy 79th Street Causeway.

•Reconfiguring parking spaces to accommodate 150 trailers and 24 vehicles.

•Removing and replacing roadway asphalt surfaces (onsite/offsite) to include regrading, remilling, resurfacing, and restriping.

•Installing new signs and signalization along SR-934/ NE 79th St. Causeway as well as installing signs within the marina parking lot.

•Installing a new eight-foot-wide pedestrian concrete walkway that will traverse the entire site from the northeast corner of the property to existing Causeway sidewalks.

•Improving parking lot stormwater drainage to address frequent standing water.

•Installing new landscaping.

•Making lighting improvements.

•Installing new fire hydrant.

•Installing an empty conduit system for a future CCTV security system for enhanced security surveillance.

Miami-Dade Parks’ Design and Build Teams are working to complete the project in conjunction with David Plummer & Associates (engineers), Gardner & Semler Landscape Architecture (landscaping), Martin Vilato Associates, Inc. (electrical engineers), Maurice Gray Associates, Inc. (structural engineers), and V. Engineering Corp. (contractor).

The marina boat ramp parking lot beautification project will cost approximately $2.6 million and will be funded by the Florida Inland Navigational District (FIND), Coastal Park and Marina Enterprise (CPME) and the Florida Boating Improvement Program (FBIP) Vessel programs.
