South Carolina S3DA Holds 1st 3-D Regional of 2019 Season

Williamsburg, KY – South Carolina S3DA hosted the 1st 3-D Regional Tournament of the 2019 season at the Midlands Archery Center in Hopkins, South Carolina. This was the very first S3DA 3-D Tournament for new clubs Point-On Archery from Catawba, SC and Midlands Archery Club. Emmanuel Baptist College in Georgia awarded $10,000 in college scholarships while Union College in Kentucky awarded $17,000 in college scholarships. Alexander Hemmila (high school traditional) and Malachi Sewell (high school fixed pins) are homeschooled archers that received scholarships.

Nine-year-old Bayleigh Johnson, current member of Point-On Archery said, “I like S3DA because it is a stress reliever. In our group, we had several kids who were shooting 3-D for their very first time. I have been shooting archery in ASA with my family for 3 years and I am the 2018 ASA SC Junior Eagle Champion. Archery is a good sport for kids of all ages and we just like having fun and meeting new people.”

“I love S3DA. It is a good way to have fun. It is fun to beat your personal best, but it is also competitive and that’s okay because everybody treats us like family,” stated S3DA Student Member, Ava Cook.

S3DA parent Noelle stated, “S3DA provides a wonderful chance for my daughter to continue shooting and competing separately from her school’s NASP team. It also challenges her to push herself, her skills and her abilities. I am thankful for an organization which offers such growth as well as scholarship opportunities.”

S3DA State Coordinator, Sheila Tadlock stated, “We are proud of the wide range of diversity that is within the South Carolina Scholastic 3-D Archery program. We encourage our archers, whether they are new to archery or very skilled in the sport, to enjoy their time creating friendships. We encourage every youth participant to try archery and not to assume that youth with special needs cannot shoot archery. Archery allows students to practice and improve their personal best. I love to see our students encouraging each other and not allowing low scores to defeat them, but always offering ways to help each other stay positive throughout every shot.”

Started in December 2012 by the Scholastic Archery Association, S3DA has grown exponentially as a next step program to follow introductory programs offered as part of 4-H or the National Archery in Schools Program. S3DA addresses the need for a program to bridge beginning target archery experience and more advanced activities such as 3-D shooting and bowhunting. The program currently operates across the United States with hundreds of certified coaches serving

thousands of young archers, grades 3–12. For more information on S3DA membership go to: WWW.S3DA.ORG or email: infos3darchery@gmail.com. Check out S3DA on Facebook, Twitter, & Instagram
