What’s Going On for Mother’s Day?

May 6, 2022

Editor’s Note: This note is being typed from Phoenix, Arizona, where I’m attending  SIG SAUER’s Freedom Days event. When I read Archery Editor Michelle Scheuermann’s piece on Mother’s Day Tuesday, I realized the best thing I could do was get out of the way and let some of the more-recognized moms in the outdoor industry tell you what they’re doing this weekend.  Having watched a young mom wrangle a pair of crying twins for nearly four hours on an airplane today, I’ve had a refresher course in things we often forget mothers endure on a daily - and ongoing- basis.

Thanks, Moms!

I had a cool write-up all ready to go this week with Eric Griggs of GAS Bowstrings, but he’s getting pushed to next week in light of it being Mother’s Day this weekend. (Apologies, Eric). Doing that allowed me to ask a few of my friends what they are doing this weekend. I only gave them a few hour notice, because that’s how nice I am, and here’s what they sent back:

“My husband, 2-year-old daughter and I will be on a turkey-hunting trip in Michigan’s Northwoods on Mother’s Day. We’ll be visiting my parents at their house and plan to hunt all day and then make a homemade dinner that evening.” – Britney Booth. Britney is a lifelong outdoorswoman and shooting enthusiast with a passion for upland bird hunting, over-and-under shotguns and German shorthaired pointers (GSP). She owns Booth Media Group, a full-service marketing company specializing in editorial and magazine publishing. She currently resides in Alabama with her husband JT, 2-year-old daughter Hunter-Leigh and 12-year-old GSP Wesson.

"I'll miss being with my kids - one who's away at college and the other who's living her best life in a camper in Colorado," says Kim Emery. "But Mother's Day is a great day for plant shopping, planting and getting outdoors." Firefly Publicity's owner, Kim Emery, is laser-focused on public relations incorporating the latest technology and trends for connecting with media, delivering results and measuring performance KPIs to support corporate marketers’ objectives and reporting requirements. Why Firefly? According to Kim, they signify the best that is the outdoors.

“This year for Mother’s Day we will hopefully spend it turkey hunting together as a family. All our kids have tags and usually this is when the turkey hunting really starts heating up in our area. There is nothing I’d rather be doing on Mother’s Day than spending it with my family doing something we all love.” – Melissa Bachman, host of “Winchester Deadly Passion.” Watch Melissa hunt, shoot and yes, sometime fish, on her weekly series every Sunday at 11:30 a.m. ET on Sportsman Channel. We all can’t wait for her youngest son, Jax, to provide more commentary in her shows.

“What am I doing this Mother’s Day? Hopefully I will be able to get a workout in before our production crew rolls in to start for filming for the new season! Jokes aside, our son Cameron just turned 7 and daughter Raygen just turned 5 and they always make me the sweetest homemade cards and artwork and Lee always has some surprise thoughtful gifts and flowers for me! Then we will spend the day outside… running the dogs, setting and checking trail cams, planting food plots, shooting our bows – there is never a dull moment in CRUSHville and we are grateful for every minute of it. We’ll end the day grilling up some wildgame on the Traeger! Happy Mother’s Day to all the outdoor moms!” -Tiffany Lakosky, CRUSH with Lee & Tiffany on Outdoor Channel. Watch Lee & Tiffany, and the whole crew every Sunday at 8 p.m. ET on Outdoor Channel.

And for me? I’m heading back to Big Cedar Lodge in Missouri. Hubby and I were here this exact weekend last year, and decided we had too much fun and needed to return. Only this time, I persuaded my parents to join! This will be an interesting weekend….and yes, you will most definitely hear about it. – Michelle Scheuermann, Editor, Archery Wire
