What a Girl Wants, What a Girl Needs

Another great SHOT Show is history. Each year, more great products are geared for us ladies. Besides the plethora of cool scopes, new guns, tactical gear and camouflage, I always manage to find a few new items of interest for those of us who hunt and shoot.

We've Been Wading for This

SHE Outdoor's new waders for women
SHE Outdoor Apparel leaped from the Dark Continent all the way to the Delta and created a line of women's waterfowl gear. The gear includes a jacket, bibs and gloves, but the real scene stealer has to be the chest waders. What set SHE Outdoor Apparel waders apart from others are the sizing options. Often chest waders are too big, legs are to long, and hips are to narrow in standard waders made for men. SHE Waders are selected by women's boot size (6-10) plus you also get to select the actual wader size (S-XL) These chic looking waders also offer a color blocking side panel to help give the illusion of a slimmer you; and who doesn't want that? Plus they also have 1000 grams of Thinsulate and retail for around $240.

Shooters Vest
Prois created what might be the perfect competitor shooting vest. First, it offers bilateral shoulder pads (this left handed shooter thanks you for thoughtfulness). Second, the good-sized expandable front cargo pockets look great, as does the rear mesh pouch that's big enough to hold shells, sunscreen, a hat or whatever. The best part of this dandy pouch is the zipper is located at the bottom of pouch, making emptying the contents effortless. And the vest unzips and turns into a shooting apron, offering the shooter three different ways of wearing one piece of shooting attire. It retails for around $140 dollars.

Rocky Rocks
Rocky is one of the most trusted names in outdoor gear. And it appears they are continuing to build that trust with their new women's line of hunting clothing. The BroadHead line is designed from a bowhunters perspective and now serious women bowhunters are offered the same high-performance apparel men have enjoyed for years. The BroadHead jacket offers Rocky's famous FEM-FIT system which features SiQ Atomic Scent-control, ultra quiet SilentHunter fabric and 50 grams of Thinsulate, plus it has a water repellant finish and a MSRP between $120-140. All this appears to translate into perfect curve hugging functional gear.

Scent Gear for Women

Tek 4 by Hunters' Specialities enables wearers to "glisten non-aromatically. Lisa Metheny photo.
Last year Hunter Specialties debuted the Tek 4 base layer gear which helps the hunter "smell invisible". Tek 4 utilizes state-of-the-art silver technology to permanently control odor caused by bacteria. In fact, the Tek 4 system uses thirty-three percent more silver than other brands. Forget the scientific stuff; all I know is the Tek 4 works. It is extremely comfortable, keeps me dry, warm and scent free. And just when I thought H.S. couldn't possibly improve the Tek 4, they did, by introducing a women's line. It's performance gear that fits our form -and I don't even mind the tiny pink logo. In addition to the women's Tek 4, H.S. also introduced the Tactical Tek 4 line, which translates into the same awesome scent eliminating gear, only in black, perfect for hunting from a ground blind. Prices range from $50-70 dollars.

Turn Up the Heat
When it comes to camp cooking I am persistent, but not always successful. I play around with recipes while looking for better products to take into the field. One product that looks promising and easy to use is the new Camp Chef's Ranger II stove with 2 burners. This high output, small framed stove is just 14 lbs and puts out 34,000 BTUs per hour. Its light weight cast aluminum burners and matchless ignition would work for nearly any camp cooking mess I might make. The Ranger II retails for 125.00

GunTote'n Mamas

GunTote'n Mamas Concealed Carry Bag- in Zebra
Handbags designed to carry a concealed weapon are typically pretty pricey and - if I am being honest - often a little ugly. I'm always looking for stylish, functional and affordable options to conceal my firearm. All of the GunTote'n Mama's bags are designed by women and are made for either right- or left-handed use. Comfortable, lightweight, attractive and priced right, their new Zebra animal print CCW purse certainly caught my eye and it claims to hold handguns in various sizes from the smallest to the 1911. The name alone is enough to turn my head, but the products are the real attention getters. With prices as reasonable as $80 for the Zebra bag, there is no reason to carry an ugly, oversized CCW handbag.

Sweet dreams
Let's face it; you can't spend all your time hunting. For those relaxing moments on the beach or cuddling with that someone special you can now express you passion for the outdoors. Wilderness Dreams offers a variety of intimate apparel and swimwear, which beautifully and tastefully reflects my obsession for camo. From the camouflage polyester nightie, and the brown-trimmed camo two piece swimwear, even the new "softer" pink trimmed camouflage camisole and boy shorts, there is surely something that will make every outdoor woman feel sexy. Prices start at $ 15.00 and go up from there.
