Announces new North American director and reinforces commitment to reliability and innovation at sea
Spectra Watermakers, a global leader in marine desalination technology, will showcase its latest onboard and emergency water systems at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show (FLIBS), Oct. 30–Nov. 3 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Recognized as one of the world’s largest in-water boat shows, FLIBS draws more than 100,000 visitors annually and remains a key event for boatbuilders, long-range cruisers and offshore adventurers.
Spectra will feature its Cape Horn, Newport and Ventura series, engineered for durability, low power consumption and reliable performance at sea. The company will also display Katadyn Survivor 06 and Survivor 35 hand-operated desalination units, compact emergency-ready systems that provide lifesaving access to drinking water when it matters most. Considered essential equipment for any ditch bag or life raft, the Survivor Series offers reliability boaters can count on in an emergency.
“Reliable water access changes what’s possible at sea,” said Chris Voxland, president, Katadyn North America. “Shows like FLIBS allow us to engage directly with the people who rely on our products—builders, captains, and cruisers—and to ensure our technology continues to meet their needs in real-world conditions.”
Spectra Watermakers systems consume just 25% of the energy used by conventional alternatives, significantly reducing overall power demands on board. Designed for nearly silent operation, the systems deliver a premium experience for boaters both at anchor and underway. With low operating pressures and high crossflow velocity, Spectra systems ensure long-lasting membranes and consistent water output, minimizing maintenance and maximizing reliability.
In advance of FLIBS, Spectra announced the appointment of Mike Schmidt as director, Spectra Watermakers, North America. He will lead marine operations, OEM relationships and strategic initiatives to strengthen the brand’s position across the region.
“Mike’s long history representing Katadyn Group brands, combined with his deep marine roots and experience across the outdoor industry, make him an excellent addition to our team,” Voxland said.
Schmidt joins Spectra as a longtime partner who previously represented the company’s products through his agency, Velocity Sales and Marketing. He also served as North American sales director at Winterquest LLC and completed three terms as board president of the Eastern Outdoor Reps Association. A U.S. Coast Guard master captain with towing and sail endorsements, Schmidt grew up in his family’s marina in Cape May, N.J., and later operated Northern Edge Fishing Charters in Maine as a registered guide.
“I’ve spent my career at the intersection of outdoor adventure and marine life,” Schmidt said. “Spectra is a trusted name among boaters worldwide, and I’m honored to join the organization to help expand our reach and support the people who rely on our products every day.”
Spectra Watermakers will be on-site at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, Booth #532, exhibiting alongside long-time partners Halden Marine. The team will connect with boat owners, dealers and OEM partners to discuss desalination solutions for vessels of all sizes.
