Whitetails Unlimited renewed its partnership with the Wyoming Game & Fish Department to sponsor their 2019 Big Game Survey. The partnership began in 2015 with surveys being distributed each year to approximately 100,000 Wyoming hunters to estimate harvest, hunter success, and hunter effort. This vital information obtained from the annual surveys is used along with information from annual herd composition surveys, harvest field checks, and mortality surveys to estimate the size, demographic characteristics, and trends of each population (herd) over time.
Most game license holders are automatically included in the survey process. Antelope, deer, and elk license holders are selected randomly because of the sheer volume of licenses sold. Hunters who are selected and complete these surveys will be entered in a drawing upon completion. Lucky winners in the various survey categories will be awarded Whitetails Unlimited branded Hawke optic sets for their participation.
“Big Game populations and harvest remains an important wildlife resource management issue for the WFGD,” says Whitetails Unlimited Program Services Director Russ Austad. “These surveys are not mandatory, so anyway we can help entice hunters to complete them is a real plus.”
