Kim Rhode Wins Olympic Spot to Represent USA in Beijing

Kerrville, Texas---With her dramatic last shot, three-time Olympic medalist Kim Rhode qualified for her fourth consecutive USA Olympic Shooting Team at the 2008 USA Shooting Selection Match in the International Skeet event.

It was competitive to the last shots of the event and Rhode was pleased with her performance. “I’m excited to have won and feel so fortunate to again have the opportunity to represent the United States in the Olympic Games” confided Rhode.

Following her gold-medal-winning performance in International Double Trap at the 2004 Athens Olympic Games, her event was discontinued for women and she was forced to make a decision: either retire from Olympic competition or start all over again in a new event.

Rhode opted for the latter alternative and began a long and arduous training program with the objective of making the U.S. National Shooting Team in the International Skeet event.

She succeeded and then redoubled her efforts as her first World Cup in Santo Domingo approached. Rhode responded by winning the gold medal in Santo Domingo and setting a new world record in her World Cup debut.

Rhode’s efforts have now brought her another opportunity to continue her Olympic career and she is very excited to again represent the USA. According to Rhode, “Because I had to switch events and become an International Skeet shooter, this victory feels like I’m winning for the first time. However, there are simply no words to describe what I felt at that moment when I knew that I had won.”
