Roush Lake will hold a 2-mile pet and owner fun walk.

Roush Lake
Roush Lake will participate in INshape DNR Day, May 5, with a series of special activities.

A 2-mile fun walk starts at 10 a.m. Those interested should meet at shelter house #1 in the Little Turtle Recreation Area. The walk will be held on flat paved surfaces with pets welcome, but you don't have to have a pet to participate. Those with pets are required to have them on 6-foot leashes and should bring a water bowl for their pets.

The human walkers should wear comfortable weather-appropriate clothing, and bring a filled water bottle.

At 11:30 a.m., Tiffany Schortgen, veterinary technician, Huntington Veterinary Hospital, will give a short talk on how to keep pets healthy and how pets can improve their owners' health.

J. Edward Roush Lake shelter house #1 is in the Little Turtle State Recreation Area off of Highway 5, south of Huntington.

Visit www.INShape.IN.gov to download a coupon to present at the gate for free gate admission on the day of the walk. Free INShape T-shirts will be provided to participants on a first-come, first-served basis May 5.
Visit the Upper Wabash Interpretive Web site, www.in.gov/dnr/uwis/ for more information about this and other available programs.

Visitors can also enjoy primitive camping during the weekend at the lake's campground. Camping fees are collected and firewood is available in the Little Turtle and Kilsoquah State Recreation Areas. The J. Edward Roush Lake property office address is 517 N. Warren Road, Huntington, 46950.

The standard entrance fee ($4/car Monday-Thursday; $5/car Friday-Saturday-Sunday; $7/car for out-of-state license plates every day) will be in effect except for those presenting the INshape coupon May 5.
