PROGRAMMING ALERT: Pike's Peak International Hill Climb Special on Saturday, September 23

The Outdoor Channel will air a special one-hour presentation of the Pike's Peak International Hill Climb (PPIHC) on Saturday, September 23rd at 1:00pm EST.

The Pikes Peak International Hill Climb is a long-standing tradition in Colorado Springs, and also has the distinction of being the second oldest motorsports event in the United States, preceded only by the Indianapolis 500. An annual event since 1916, 2006 marked the 84th running of the "Race to the Clouds" and the 90th anniversary of this historical event.

The race is run on a 12-mile course that begins at 9,200 feet and finishes at the 14,110- foot summit of Pikes Peak. It features a variety of automotive, semi truck and motorcycle classes with an average of 150 competitors.

This year's PPIHC competition, featuring a surprise downpour, was filmed for TOC by veteran racers and Outdoor Channel producers Paul and Wally Dallenbach, who both also competed in the event.
