Scholastic 3-D Archery Prepares for 3-D Nationals

Williamsburg, KY – June 19, 2018 – Scholastic 3-D Archery will host the 2018 S3DA 3-D Archery National Championships June 22nd-24th at the Mermet Lake State Conservation Area near Metropolis, IL. This will be the 6th annual 3-D National Championship hosted by S3DA and will feature more than 900 youth (ages 8 to 18) all vying for the chance to be awarded a National Title. Students will have the opportunity to compete against S3DA members from across the United States for the title of “National Champion” in their division. This event will get underway Thursday, June 21st with the opening of the practice facilities. Elementary and Middle School shooting will take place on Friday and Saturday with each division participating in one round of 20 targets on each day. High School rounds will take place Saturday and Sunday and each division/class will culminate with a shoot down for podium finishes. Some special activities will also take place during the event.

The Pope and Young Club will be sponsoring the Pope and Young North American Big Game Challenge, a ten-target (North American big game animals) known yardage round with scores for the youth and their parent partner being combined. QDMA will also sponsor the QDMA Family Whitetail Challenge, a ten-target (whitetail deer in various situations) known yardage round in the same competition format. Not only will the top three in each division/class receive an award but all students who participate in these special events will be entered to win a Kentucky Whitetail Hunt at Pape’s Victoria Crossroads, a 3,600-acre pristine managed hunting reserve with trophy bass fishing on the grounds.

S3DA is very appreciative of the Illinois Department of Natural Resources and Supervisor, Chris McGinness for allowing the use of the Mermet Lake State Conservation Area for this event. Mermet Lake is an old cypress southern Illinois swamp managed as one of the state’s most outstanding waterfowl hunting locales.  This will be a stellar event for youth archers from across the country. Make plans to come out and see the future of archery in action!

Started in December 2012 by the Scholastic Archery Association, S3DA has grown exponentially as a next step program to follow introductory programs offered as part of 4-H or the National Archery in Schools Program.  S3DA addresses the need for a program to bridge beginning target archery experience and more advanced activities such as 3-D shooting and bowhunting. The program currently operates across the United States with hundreds of certified coaches serving

thousands of young archers, grades 3–12.
