Whitetails Unlimited Presents 2018 Hunting Heritage Award to Jerry Wydner of Hunter Safety System

The WTU award recognizes Jerry Wydner of Hunter Safety System, for leadership and accomplishment in the areas of conservation, education, and the preservation of the hunting tradition.

Jerry Wydner, executive vice president of Hunter Safety System, has been named as the winner of the 2018 Whitetails Unlimited Hunting Heritage Award – Individual, for leadership and accomplishment in the areas of conservation, education, and the preservation of the hunting tradition.

Whitetails Unlimited recognized Wydner for his efforts in providing leadership in the area of tree stand safety, and for revolutionizing the safety gear hunters use. Hunter Safety System is the industry leader in keeping hunters safe when they choose to leave the ground.

“Since Whitetails Unlimited began we have made safety while hunting a central part of our education mission, and Hunter Safety System is the industry leader in safety gear and products,” said WTU President Jeff Schinkten. “Jerry is an activist for safety while hunting from elevated stands, and many hunters are still on the Earth because of his efforts. No one goes into the woods thinking they are going to have a serious accident, but if they listen to Jerry, and use his products, they may just be able to walk out again.”

The Hunting Heritage Award is presented by Whitetails Unlimited in recognition of leadership and accomplishment in the areas of conservation, education, and the preservation of the hunting tradition – the essence of the mission of Whitetails Unlimited. It is the most prominent award presented by Whitetails Unlimited to an individual in the outdoor industry.

Hunter Safety System was created 16 years ago as a result of a relative’s fall from a tree stand. While there were no serious injuries in that incident, John and Jerry Wydner set out to develop and market an affordable, reliable, and well-made safety harness that would be comfortable enough for hunters to use every time they were in an elevated stand. Hunter Safety System now has multiple models of harnesses, including specific models for hanging stands, bow hunters, crossbow hunters, and harnesses that incorporate odor-control technology. HHS also has a full line of lifelines and accessories to make hunting safer.

“We’re honored to be able to recognize this outstanding ambassador of the outdoor community, and together we will continue to extend the message of being safe while hunting,” said Schinkten.
