DANIA BEACH, Fla. – Mike Myatt, Director of Corporate Relations for The International Game Fish Association (IGFA), has announced his retirement after 18 years of dedicated service to the organization.
 
“Mike’s contributions to the success of the IGFA over the years are countless and his network in the angling world is without rival,” said IGFA President Nehl Horton in a statement made earlier this morning. “While I am saddened by Mike’s decision, I understand and support his view that it is time for him to reel up and make a move to the next fishing spot in life.”
 
Originally from Maine, Myatt moved to South Florida in 1996 to continue his career in publishing. As an avid angler and passionate outdoorsman, Myatt jumped at the opportunity to work at the IGFA and was hired in November 2000 under past IGFA President Mike Leech to fill the role of Marketing Director. During his long tenure at IGFA, Myatt has also served as Chief Operating Officer.
 
In addition to his success in building the IGFA’s corporate partnerships, Myatt grew the IGFA’s Inshore and Offshore World Championship Tournaments into the most prestigious international fishing events in the world.
 
“Aside from the birth of my son Patrick and my marriage to my wife Maureen, furthering the IGFA’s mission for the past 18 years has been my greatest personal achievement,” Myatt said. “I am particularly grateful for the lifelong friendships that I have made in the sport which I so dearly love.”
 
Myatt will remain in position in the short-term to ensure a smooth transition as the IGFA begins the process of recruiting his successor.
 
“On behalf of the IGFA Board of Trustees, our international representatives and members worldwide, I want thank Mike for his leadership and dedication to the IGFA family,” Horton concluded. “We greatly appreciate the contributions Mike has made to not only our association, but to the international recreational angling community as a whole.”
