PRADCO Outdoor Brands is currently seeking an engineer for its Summit Treestands division. The position is based in both Birmingham and Decatur, Alabama.

General Description: 

The Summit Engineer has ownership of the safety, design and function of the treestand, shooting house and accessory categories. He or she will use input on consumer trends, the retail landscape, and competitive products and translate this into a viable product designs in collaboration with the Brand Team. As a “high confidence, low ego” team player, the Summit Engineer will work cross-functionally with Brand, Operations, Marketing, and Sales to provide critical design and data to be delivered to our customers and consumers. He or she will be in a key role of the product development cycle to deliver quality products that align with the integrity of the Summit brand. Time will be 80/20 split between Birmingham, AL and Decatur, AL (whichever is closest).

Essential Functions:

Product Engineering and Design (60%) – Lead product design and engineering for the Brand Team while understanding the end-use/ function of the product and critical requirements for safety. Generate specifications and drawings for new products to be delivered to the operations team for manufacturing. Coordinate development, engineering, and testing with partners and manufacturers to insure new products launch successfully. 

Representation (20%) – Represent the company on several industry committees to help frame industry standards and improve existing product standards for safety and construction. Represent the company to explain design and functions as required.

Support (10%) – Assist in training Customer and Consumer Service on new and existing product functions and answers to frequently asked questions. Occasional assistance at industry trade shows.

Travel (10%) – Some travel is required to outside supplier facilities and to Industry Trade Shows (limited but possibly internationally).

Basic Qualifications:

• College or graduate degree in mechanical engineering.
• Minimum of 5 years successfully managing engineering projects
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in integrated 3D CAD/CAM/CAE solution software (ex. Creo Parametric - Pro Engineer)
• Knowledge of manufacturing, process, quality, tooling, and welding with aluminum and steel
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.)
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Proficient in Technical Writing (Product Instructions)

Preferred Qualifications:

• Background in the hunting or outdoor sporting goods market
• Treestand expertise a plus
• Experience in consumer product development and product planning
• Familiarity in ASTM Standards
• Experience in Tool Design
