Leaders in R3 Community to Host First-Ever National R3 Symposium

This week, the Council to Advance to Hunting and the Shooting Sports (Council), along with many of its partners, officially announced the National R3 Symposium.  This is the first event of its kind to bring together partners spanning the conservation community to advance national efforts to recruit, retain and reactivate (R3) outdoor recreation participants; including hunters, anglers, boaters and recreational target shooters.

“The National R3 Symposium will provide an unparalleled opportunity for state and federal fish and wildlife agencies, outdoor recreation industries and conservation organizations to share, learn and develop opportunities for our community to advance and accelerate the current state of R3 efforts,” said John Frampton, President/CEO of the Council to Advance Hunting and the Shooting Sports.

The Symposium, planned for May 21-23, 2018 at the Lincoln Marriott Cornhusker Hotel in Lincoln, Nebraska, will include a plenary session with well-known and influential speakers from industry, agency and outdoor media and will offer reflections of recent advancements in R3 from various organizations spanning the conservation community. Presentations will also focus on R3 & data, R3 & marketing, and discussions on opportunities to engage sportsmen in strategic R3 efforts, such as mentoring and program evaluation.

“The number of outdoor recreation participants has declined since the mid-1980s, and that has a direct impact on overall conservation efforts in America” said Cyrus Baird, Programs Director for the Council, “we have discussed hosting a national-level meeting focused on R3 for several years, and now is the perfect time for our community to come together and tackle these challenges.”

At the conclusion of this event, the Council and its partners expect the outdoor community will have an increased understanding of the current state of R3 efforts, challenges and partnerships opportunities available to effectively advance R3 at the national level.

“Anyone with a vested interest in the future of outdoor recreation should attend this event “said Samantha Pedder, Business Development Director for the Council “from CEOs and state fish and wildlife agency directors, as well as R3 coordinators, marketing, communication and information/technology professionals, and any other individuals who are interested or actively working to advance R3 efforts for their organizations should be in Lincoln in May.”
