Whitetails Unlimited Contributes to Ohio Division of Wildlife for K-9 Units

Whitetails Unlimited recently awarded a grant in the amount of $25,000 to the Ohio Division of Wildlife to obtain five wildlife-detecting K-9 units. The dogs will be used primarily for search and rescue and game recovery. In addition to detecting wildlife, the dogs will also be trained to find item that have human odor on them such as firearms, shell casings, or other items of evidence a suspect may have tried to hide.

Training will start for three dog handler teams in January of 2018, with the other two teams starting in Summer of 2018. The dogs will be considered officers of the law with a service expectancy of eight years. These dogs are specifically selected for this position based on health, trainability, and determination needed to perform the duties expected.
