Hamburg, PA. - With the presentation of awards on July 22, the 30th Anniversary of the Sportsman's Team Challenge National Championships presented by Bass Pro Shops' came to an end. Mayor Jensen of Grand Island, NE presented Match Director Doug Koenig with an official proclamation acknowledging the three day event. Held at the Heartland Public Shooting Park in Grand Island July 20-22, 2017, more than 50 teams of competitors from nearly 20 states, Australia, England and France vied to make the Saturday final rounds. With an overflowing prize table and cash payout valued at six-figures, the top three teams in each class went home with winner checks, products, firearm gift certificates and accessories donated by shooting and hunting industry sponsors.
Doug Koenig, Match Director, commented "Overseeing the match for the second year, I was definitely excited with the growing number of registered competitors and the involvement of our title sponsor Bass Pro Shops. There were 20 first time competitors, many who have shot the match 25 plus years, and one 30 year veteran. That tells me this match continues to have a strong following. Looking to the future, this event has the potential to grow because the standard firearms used in this competition is what most competitors already own. Many competitors expressed interest in organizing a Sportsman's Team Challenge regional event in their own state."
From its inception in the late 1980's, the Sportsman's Team Challenge celebrates 30 years of attracting juniors, newcomers, families and competition shooters who continue to enjoy its popularity and rich tradition. The match is a two or three person team event, combining multi-discipline shooting competition of a rifle, pistol and shotgun.
