Iowa's Ankeny Centennial Jaguars Trap Team Wins Intermediate/Advanced Div. Handicap Trap National Title

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Breaking 873 of 1,000 targets, the Ankeny Centennial Jaguars Trap Team of Iowa took home the Handicap Trap title in the Intermediate/Advanced Division during competition at the 2017 Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP) National Team Championships.

The Jaguars were led by Johnathon Beuter with a final target count of 183. Sam Gammon and Erin Neppl both broke 179 targets followed by Raylee Bishop with 177 and Leah Hofstadter with 155. All five team members are from Ankeny.

Held July 8-15 at the Cardinal Shooting Center in Marengo, Ohio, more than 2,300 athletes representing 29 states faced over one million clay targets during eight days of competition in the shooting disciplines of Trap, Skeet and Sporting Clays.

Second place in the Handicap Trap event went to Iowa's Easton Valley Trapshooting Team with 856 total targets. Abram Driscoll of Spragueville was the squad's top shooter with 182 followed by Devan Myers of Preston with 181, Nate Rathje of Sabula with 173, Kaleb Cornilsen of Miles with 162 and Elliot Beck of Preston with 158.

Rounding out the top three were the Flyway Clay Slayers of Wisconsin with 807. Morgan Clark of Mayville led the Clay Slayers with 173. Issac Halsne of Mayville and Owen Luedtke of Fond du Lac each contributed 165 followed by Evan Marx of Mayville with 160 and Garrett Olson of Mayville with 144.

The Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP) is a youth development program in which adult coaches and other volunteers use the shooting sports of Trap, Skeet and Sporting Clays, as well as the Olympic disciplines of Bunker Trap, Trap Doubles and International Skeet to teach and to demonstrate sportsmanship, responsibility, honesty, ethics, integrity, teamwork, and other positive life skills. Nationally, there are nearly 14,800 students and more than 3,300 adult volunteers across 45 states participating in the Scholastic Clay Target Program.

The Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation, Inc. (SSSF), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, is the National Governing Body for the Scholastic Clay Target Program. SCTP was started by the National Shooting Sports Foundation in 2001.
