Iowa Cabins, campsites still available for the Memorial Day weekend

A handful of state park cabins are available for rental for the upcoming holiday weekend.

The cabins, which normally require a one-week minimum rental during the peak season, are available for only two-night minimum stay. Reservations must be made through the individual park's office.

The following state parks have one or more cabins available to rent for this coming holiday weekend:

Lacey-Keosauqua 319-293-3502
Lake of Three Fires 712-523-2700
Lake Wapello 641-722-3371
Nine Eagles 641-442-2855
Palisades-Kepler 319-895-6039
Pine Lake 641-858-5832
Waubonsie 712-382-2786

Campsites

Leading up to the Memorial Day weekend, with its beautiful weather forecast, reservable campsites are nearly gone.

Less than 10 percent of campsites on the reservation system are left, and all but a handful are standard non-electric or tent-only sites. Waubonsie State Park, in far southwest Iowa, has 19 equestrian sites currently open for reservations.

Reservations can be made at iowastateparks.reserveamerica.com until midnight May 24 or through the call center (1-877-427-2757) until 7 p.m. On Thursday, any remaining reservable campsites will go to walk-in status. State parks maintain a minimum 25 percent of all campsite types as walk-ins; however most will be taken early to ensure a spot for the holiday weekend.
