HAVA Embarks on Peacemaker Training Series
"Learn to Shoot Again" Serves Walter Reed Vets

Gerrardstown, WV – Honored American Veterans Afield (HAVA) announces the launch of a new Learn to Shoot Again (LTSA) series at West Virginia's Peacemaker National Training Center held on April 19 and 20. LTSA is HAVA's latest initiative to assist severely disabled and physically challenged veterans in their rehabilitation by marrying severely injured/certified trainers one-on-one with these deserving veterans who want to learn to shoot proficiently despite injuries that would otherwise preclude success. Each trainer has completed their own rehabilitation and learning process and is uniquely qualified to understand the needs of the newly injured veteran who aspires to shooting success. Training includes the obvious adaptation to the individual veteran's injuries, but also provides specific training in preparation for entering competitive shooting events.

"We had 8 physically challenged students, mostly from Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, at our inaugural Peacemaker event and were very pleased with the results as we structured our curriculum specifically for each participant, with an eye toward replicating the process in events later in the year in Florida, Texas, Kentucky, Connecticut, New Hampshire and North Carolina," said Rick Cicero, HAVA's LTSA Lead Instructor, himself a severely injured combat veteran.

"We are very proud of what the Learn to Shoot Again team is accomplishing in our first full year of LTSA operation and pleasantly surprised at how many of the physically challenged veterans want to move on to the competitive shooting level in Phase II of their training. We expect to train well over 100 deserving warriors at 2 dozen events this year and complete IDPA training and orientation for nearly 75% of them," said HAVA Chairman Tom Taylor. "Setting goals and achieving them for our students is the real HAVA deliverable, and we are improving our process and fulfilling our industry's promise to our disabled American veterans every day."
