Michigan: Perch Lake SF Campground to Host Displaced Campers From Muskallonge Lake SP

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources announced today that Perch Lake State Forest Campground in Luce County will host displaced campers from Muskallonge Lake State Park.

Construction activities began in May at Muskallonge Lake State Park to replace an electrical system that was determined to be unsafe. It was anticipated the project would be completed in time for Labor Day weekend, however, areas of the campground will remain closed through the 2016 camping season. Campers whose reservations are affected have already been contacted and offered alternative camping options.

"Portions of the Perch Lake State Forest Campground will be reserved for those campers who had reservations, but we are unable to accommodate due to ongoing construction activities," said Jim Dzelak, park supervisor at Muskallonge Lake State Park. "Many of these campers have had reservations in place for six months, and we are doing everything we can to ensure they have a reserved campsite."

While the Perch Lake State Forest Campground does not typically hold campsites, it is likely some campsites will be unavailable for those arriving on a first-come, first-served basis in order to host displaced campers from Muskallonge Lake State Park.

There are many additional nearby state forest campgrounds that will remain first-come, first-served, including High Bridge State Forest CampgroundBlind Sucker No. 1 State Forest Campground, Blind Sucker No. 2 State Forest Campground,Holland Lake State Forest CampgroundPretty Lake State Forest Campground and Lake Superior State Forest Campground.
