Brimley State Park beach reopens after temporary closure

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources today announced that the swimming beach located on Lake Superior's Whitefish Bay in Brimley State Park (Chippewa County) has reopened after a temporary closure that revealed elevated E. coli bacteria levels. The rest of the park was not affected by the closure.

The closure, issued by the Chippewa County Health Department, was a result of water sample tests taken Thursday, Aug. 25. The results showed the amount of bacteria exceeded the state's standard.

The health department took new samples Friday, Aug. 26, and the DNR was notified that the samples demonstrated that the water no longer contained high levels of E. coli bacteria and was safe.
