JV Squad Wins Second Doubles Skeet Title for Lake Oconee at 2016 SCTP Nationals

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The JV squad for the Lake Oconee Shotgun Team won a second national title in Doubles Skeet for the Georgia youth shooting team with their 266 target victory in the Junior Varsity Division at the 2016 Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP) National Team Championships in Ohio.

Breaking 96 of 100 targets, Aaron Copelan of Eatonton led the Lake Oconee Shotgun Team. Nash Sinclair and Jaden Grimes, both also of Eatonton, added another 86 and 84 targets, respectively.

Held July 9-16 at the Cardinal Shooting Center in Marengo, Ohio, nearly 2,200 athletes representing 28 states faced more than 961,000 clay targets during eight days of competition in the shooting disciplines of Trap, Skeet and Sporting Clays.

The Haywood Young Guns of Tennessee finished second in the division with their 256 target final count. Ethan Taylor of Bells broke 90 target to head the squad, followed by Graham Morris of Brownsville with 86 and John Moore of Alamo with 80.

Third place went to the Central Falcons out of Wisconsin with 245. Andy Korando of Pleasant Prairie, Ill. led with 88, followed by Benjamin Haigh of Kenosha, Wisc. with 81 and Gene Bacsa IV of Ingleside, Ill. with 76.

The Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP) is a youth development program in which adult coaches and other volunteers use the shooting sports of Trap, Skeet and Sporting Clays, as well as the Olympic disciplines of Bunker Trap, Trap Doubles and International Skeet to teach and to demonstrate sportsmanship, responsibility, honesty, ethics, integrity, teamwork, and other positive life skills. Nationally, there are nearly 13,700 students and more than 2,900 coaches from 43 states participating in the Scholastic Clay Target Program.

The Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation, Inc. (SSSF), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, is the National Governing Body for the Scholastic Clay Target Program. SCTP was started by the National Shooting Sports Foundation in 2001.
