Alabama Red Snapper Season Open Through July 31 in State Waters

The 2016 Alabama red snapper season began Friday, May 27th and continues through Sunday, July 31st. Alabama state waters extend to 9 nautical miles for reef fish only. Non-reef fish (mackerels, red drum, etc.) must follow federal regulations in waters greater than three nautical miles from shore.

The Marine Resources Division reminds all red snapper anglers that any red snapper landed in Alabama need to be reported by the captain or owner of the vessel prior to landing. Only one report is required per vessel trip and all red snapper are required to be reported regardless of where the fish were caught. If Marine Resources Division staff collect information about your red snapper catch you are still required to report your trip. Anglers can report via the Pocket Ranger® app for Outdoor Alabama found on iTunes or Google Play app stores, by phone at 1-844-RED-SNAP (1-844-733-7627), online at outdooralabama.com, and on paper forms provided at select coastal public launches. For more information, visit http://www.outdooralabama.com/red-snapper-data-and-mandatory-reporting-faqs.

Also, Alabama and federal waters will close to recreational harvest of greater amberjack and gray triggerfish from June 1st – July 31st.

Good luck and have a safe season.
