The Department of Natural Resources today launched its first-ever fishing video contest, Fishing in 15. This contest aims to highlight Michigan's world-class fisheries and fishing opportunities by tapping the public to develop short videos that visually showcase the resource.

Participants are invited to create a 15-second-or-less video that shows the DNR what fishing means to them. Videos can be submitted via Twitter, Facebook or Instagram with the hashtag #Fishingin15. Videos will be collected now through Friday, June 17.

The top 10 videos will be placed on the internet atMichigan.gov/fishingin15 to be voted on by the public. Voting will take place Friday, July 1, through Monday, Aug. 1. The video with the top number of votes will receive a $500 Dunham's gift card and promotion on the DNR's social media channels and website.

The winner will be announced by Friday, Sept. 2.

"Interested individuals should get creative to show us how they feel about Michigan's amazing fisheries," said Elyse Walter, communications specialist with the DNR Fisheries Division. "We can't wait to see what folks come up with."

Fishing in 15 participants should be sure to follow Michigan's fishing rules and regulations. Those in need of a refresher on what's legal and what's not should check out the 2016-2017 Michigan Fishing Guide.

Participants must be 18 or older. Submissions are limited to one per person; for additional information on the Fishing in 15 contest, including official rules, visit Michigan.gov/fishingin15.
