Scottsdale's Parada del Sol Parade and Trails End Festival Celebrates Leaders who have nurtured the Spirit that shapes "The West's Most Western Town"
Scottsdale, AZ- "Come experience the 'spirit' of the old west and the western lore that attracts visitors from around the world to Arizona by attending the Scottsdale Parada del Sol Parade and Trail's End Festival. Join parade watchers on Saturday, Feb. 13, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. for a day of free family-oriented entertainment. After the Parade, the Old Town area will be bustling as the Trail's End multi-cultural festival begins," says Parade Boss Wendy Springborn.
Make Feb. 13 your family's "western day" and spend it strolling the streets, listening to music, exploring the old west stores and visiting Scottsdale's Museum of the West. Find your valentine a unique treasure of turquoise jewelry, pottery, sculpture, paintings, clothing or cowboy boots. The well-known Saba's Western Wear has been the anchor retailer in the downtown for 60 years and staff will even shape a cowboy hat while you wait. Renowned art galleries with old west paintings and restaurants with the finest cuisine in the west will keep the family roaming downtown all day. The after-parade Trails End Festival features a Western Village, Native American Village, Hispanic Village and Cowboy Kids Zone. The three main stages will host string, rock and rockability bands as well as Aztec dancers, cowboy games for kids, folklorico dancing, and an old west shooting gallery.
"The Parade starts at 10 a.m. but go early to get your place along the route," said Springborn. "The Parade draws thousands of visitors who come to enjoy the 100 parade entrants with their flashy Arabian horses and riders, roughhousing mountain men, wild women of the west, U.S. Marshals Posse and marching bands. Remember, road closures will take place down Scottsdale Road and in Old Town areas from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. following the parade route, so plan ahead." The theme for the 63rd Annual Parade for 2016 is "The Stars of Scottsdale." These are some of Scottsdale's leadership families, many of whom grew up in the historic downtown and shaped the future of Scottsdale for decades. Come meet these families and celebrate the "Western's Most Western Town" along the parade route with Grand Marshal Paul R. Messinger, Bill Schrader, Carl Cluff, Edwin Carroll, the Dave Alford family, and the Saba family. Other "Stars" to be celebrated on stage at noon will be Scottsdale Police Officer Loveless, Firefighter Joe Johnson, Chaparral Teacher of the Year Christine Marsh and the Saguaro High School State Champion Football Team and Coach of the Year.
Also be sure to schedule the weekend of Feb. 25 for the Scottsdale Parada del Sol Pro Rodeo events that feature saddle bronc riding, bull riding, roping and barrel racing. West World in north Scottsdale overflows with western booths and exhibits, music and dancing.
