Corps reminds boaters of small craft advisory for Arkansas River

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - The Army Corps of Engineers reminds boaters that a small craft advisory for the Arkansas River is still in place. Even though flows have decreased the advisory will be in effect for several more weeks.

During high flows, dikes, normally visible are submerged; strong currents and large debris can also threaten the safety of pleasure craft.

Small craft advisories are issued when flows exceed 70,000 cubic feet per second.

Flows at Trimble Lock and Dam near Fort Smith are about 140,000 c.f.s. Flows at Ormond Lock and Dam at Morrilton are about 160,000 c.f.s. Flows at Murray Lock and Dam at Little Rock are about 165,000 c.f.s. Flows at Sanders Lock and Dam near Pine Bluff are about 160,000 c.f.s. Flows at Mills Dam at Arkansas Post are about 170,000 c.f.s.

More rain could push flows higher or cause the advisory to remain in effect longer. Daily river information can be obtained at http://go.usa.gov/3wcmm or the Corps' mobile App which can be found in mobile App stores by searching for USACE Little Rock.
